Montessori Children’s House

Our Children's House is available especially for our members. Please join Peaceful Rooms as a member or log in to enrol.

Our Montessori Children’s House is a Montessori classroom for 2.5-6 year olds. The environment is prepared for our children whom are ready for increased independence from their family, and wish to develop responsibility and friendships within a community of peers. The program is very similar to the 2.5-6 year olds program offered in school settings, with the curriculum adapted to the timeframe available and interests of the group.

The Children's House is much more than a school readiness program, and does not simply prepare children for school. The Montessori approach prepares children for life through meaningful, self chosen work. The skills and values the children develop during the three years of this program allow the children to become the peaceful (confident, calm, and in control) beings they wish to be; ready to face the challenges ahead of them in any school environment and throughout life! The curriculum areas the children engage with at their own pace throughout these years include: practical life, sensorial, grace and courtesy, language, mathematics, the sciences, cultural studies, and the arts.

With such limited places available in this program, we aim to support families whom want to see their child mature throughout the duration of the three year cycle with us rather than attending as a short-term stepping stone to the next phase of schooling. We understand that not all families wish to send their child to school at such a young age or may not be able to enrol their child in Montessori school at this time, and so we are pleased to provide this special alternative.

The half day routine includes:

  • 9am - greeting teachers and saying farewell to families on arrival,
  • uninterrupted time to choose work with Montessori lessons and materials (which have been presented to each child by our Montessori teacher) and receive individual instruction,
  • opportunity to help prepare a shared snack,
  • opportunity to set the table, prepare and share fruit snack together,
  • 11:15am - sharing lunch together (individual lunch to be provided by parents),
  • 11:45am - group circle time including stories, songs or games

An extended day is available by enrolling your child in our drop off & play programs, which provide play-based specialist lessons.

As our Montessori Children’s House operates as a creche and is not a child care service or school, parents are required to remain on the premises (though not in the classroom) during this program. Our Parent Circle is offered concurrently in our Montessori Playgroup room. Please join this group, and enjoy connection with other like-minded families. Montessori Children's House children should each bring a piece of fruit to share, hat, change of clothes, and individual packed lunch.
